Kenja's Newsletter & Updates

Volume 2/ Edition 3

February 05, 2000

Hello everybody

Welcome to another edition of Kenja's Newsletter & Updates.
I have been extremely busy in the last two weeks because my computer crashed twice, back to back within a few days, and I am also in the middle of moving both of my domains to a new server. The crash caused the loss of all my saved e-mail messages and some people never got an answer for their questions sent by e-mail... I apologize for that. Even my ICQ list suffered. I thought I had everything backed up, but to my surprise I found out it was a back up from over a year ago. Goes to show you that no one is perfect, not even us "Computer Gurus". *smile*

Site Related News:

The move of the domains to the new server is hopefully going to be smooth. I hope that there won't be too many glitches as far as file downloads etc, though there may be a slight chance that the cyber card section will not work 100% at first. We hope to have all the bugs worked out by maybe the end of next week. You probably won't even notice that all of this is going on.

Also decided to upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) which comes with Internet Explorer 5 and Outlook Express 5. I am still not convinced that this is a real stable OS (Operating System), as I am still having many problem with my machine. However, with the switch to IE/OE 5, I will no longer make stationery for IE/OE4 users. The ones that are at the site now will stay and I will convert certain categories (not all of them as there are too many) over to be compatible for IE/OE5 users.

Desktop Theme News:

With all my problems recently I did not have a lot of time to make themes, however I have made one Desktop Theme and one Screensaver.

  • Kenja's Native Screensaver is a new addition to the Native section. This screensaver will fit with any and all of the Native themes, because I used the wallpapers (24 pictures) of all my Native Themes to make it. You will need a screen setting of 800x600, high colors of at 16-bit (16 Million) or better. The screensaver also has an install and uninstall feature from the Control Panel, comes with Native midis, and many transitions for special effects. Hope you enjoy it.

  • On the 7th Day is also a new addition to the Native section. This theme includes wallpaper (artist is unknown to me... but keep your eyes in the sky of the picture *smile*) for 800x600 screen settings, set of my original icons, set of cursors, native wave sounds for all Window events and a set of my original Logo SYS files (Start-up, Wait and Shutdown screens).

Coming Soon:

Starting next month I will add desktop themes and screensavers to a new section which will feature only Adult Fantasy. These will not be X-rated, however they will contain some nudity. If anyone has any special requests for this section... I am all ears. *smile* Please e-mail with your requests and/or suggestions webmaster@kenja.net

Wanted... high quality Themes:

I am currently looking for high-quality desktop themes and/or screensavers on the following topics: African American, Lighthouses, Cowboys, and SciFi/Space. If you are a Theme Creator and would like to have your theme and/or screensaver listed at kenja.com send me an e-mail!

* NOTE* I use Zip Magic to compress and turn Stationery and/or Desktop Theme files into EXE format. If you ever get a password prompt during installation... ignore it and proceed. They are not password protected! For more installation help visit either the Stationery Help or the Theme Help sections.

There will be no additional shops in association with Amazon. That end of business is just not lucrative enough, however I will keep the Native American Music Shop and Kenja's Gift Shop.

The Gift:

The Gifts for this issue are a Stationery with scrolling background & midi, and a wallpaper for Valentines Day. The graphics for the stationery and the wallpaper were created from ground up with PSP 6.0 tubes, various brushes and filters for effect. The wallpaper has a matching Hotbar skin located in the Valentine section. *smile*

Stationery for IE/OE 5 version will also work in the OE 4 version as well.

Hope you enjoy the Gifts!

Please make note that the gifts are only for actual subscribers to this newsletter and not for visitors to the archive copies based on the net. Gifts are available for a limited time with each issue, roughly about 7 days and will then be removed... so get 'em while you can!

Stationery & Tools:

On the topic of stationery, I remember when I started with Stationery there were a little more than a handful of sites offering them, and now there must be hundreds of them. Here are a few that offer the unusual:
  • I found an e-mail group a few weeks ago called Sexy Stationery Discussion List. This is a group of people who help each other to create stationery for adults. I have not seen any of their creations anywhere, not even on their homepage at Sexy Stationery. You will have to join Topica E-mail List Directory (this is free) and then their list.

  • Now here is a useful free program if you want to create your own stationery. This program makes creating Stationery virtually "fool proof" (not calling anyone names here, so please don't send me any hate mail *smile), called Adlor's Stationery Creation Tool V1.1. The program is very easy to use, and made for OE 4 and 5 users. The knowledge of some basic HTML coding would be helpful, especially if you need to look inside the source code to make some final adjustments. The Creation Tool lets you include any kind of sound file (check mark if you are using OE 4 otherwise leave blank), pictures of any format and size, scrolling of background can be adjusted to scroll from any given direction, clicking of the background to start and/or stop the scrolling is an automatic option, and you can even include up to 3 scrolling Status-Bar messages. The locations of the sound and graphic files don't have to be in your stationery default folder on your computer but can be located anywhere to be able to use them. Once you are done you can save the stationery html in the default folder and you are done. Trust me... now anyone can make their own stationery or adjust OE 4 stationery to be compatible with OE 5... and yes it is FREE!

  • If you are still not in the mood for making your own stationery, you have always the option of downloading some from one of the many sites on the Internet. DTK Designs Stationery has some very unusual and nice stationery in various categories and also with some special effects like Java FX (i.e. the lake effect etc.)

  • Rob's Stationery X Files has also some very nice stationery. He specializes in Movie and People themed stationery. All very nicely done with scrolling backgrounds and midi music. Definitely worth a visit.

Graphic Programs Tutorials:

Learning how to use special effects in graphic programs can be very trying. People tell you how or what they used to make their graphics, and even though you may use the same program, you are having a hard time trying to recreate the effects yourself. The following sites offer some very nice and easy to understand tutorials to cover most popular graphic programs:
  • Paint Shop Pro is probably one of the most widely used graphic programs. It is easy to use (though not cheap), and offers many built in filters and effects like tubes and frames. Paint Shop Pro Tutorials by Aesthetic Web Creations offers tutorials for PSP version 5 and 6 ranging from the basic stuff up to learning how to use Blade Pro (Pug-in filter) to creating seamless tiles and even how to slice images.

  • Another good PSP (Paint Shop Pro) tutorial site is Paint Shop Pro 5 Tips & Tricks (what works for version 5 works also in version 6). Here you can learn anything from the basic to the most involved with step-by-step instructions and pictures. They even have all tutorials available in PDF format so that you can download it and print it or just keep around without having to be connected to the Internet. Very well done and easy to follow.

  • Internet Eye Magazine is a large Internet based graphics magazine and they too offer many tutorials for many different graphic programs like PSP, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Poser, Painter, Corel and many others.

  • Ulead is another company that offers a good selection of widely used graphic programs like Gif Animator, Web Razor, Cool 3-D, and various others. Of course they too have a good Tutorial section to support their programs as well.

  • If you are into Bryce 3 and/or 4 by Meta Creations then I would recommend that you visit their tutorial section, as well as a site called Bryce 4 All. The later site is awesome, because not only do they offer various tutorials, but also textures, pre-sets, skies, a message board, an awesome picture gallery and also models, a contest and so much more. Even if you do not have the Bryce program the picture gallery alone is worth a visit. *smile*

Quote of the Week
*If you live on this land, and you have ancestors sleeping in this land, I believe that makes you a native to this land. It has nothing to do with the color of your skin. I was not raised to look at people racially. What I was taught is that we're flowers in the Great Spirit's garden. We share a common root, and the root is Mother Earth. *
