Kenja's Newsletter & Updates

Volume 1/ Edition 8

October 15, 1999

Hello everybody

First let me welcome all new-comers to the list, for Stationery, Desktop Themes and for the Newsletter. I hope you enjoy the updates and stay with us for a long time.

Wallpaper & Theme News:

Well I haven't had a whole lot of time to make new themes and/or wallpaper for my site, as I am involved in some new paying projects. However, new themes will be posted by the end of next week to include 3 Native Themes, one or two more Halloween themes and a Thanksgiving Screensaver. I am currently working on some seasonal wallpaper for a site called Webshots. They offer over 2000 pictures for their free Wallpaper Changer program that also doubles as a Screensaver. If you like to see what I have done so far, check out Halloween Art1 in the Seasonal section.

Other Site Related News:

More Tubes have been added to Kenja's PSP Tubes & Tube Links section. This time I added tubes made from the Halloween Children art of R. Moorehead. If you have or know of a good site with Tubes, let me know and I will add it to the Tube Links page.

I am also still working on the CD Shops and they too should be finished by the end of next week. For the time being visit the Native American Music Shop, and keep your eyes on the main index page for the opening of the Christmas, Fantasy and SciFi Shop.

Also stop by Kenja's Gift Shop for some great Gift items such as Glass & Crystal Figurines, Fine Jewellery, Clocks, Sports items, Porcelain, Toys, Garden Accessories, and much more. Stop by to just browse the gifts, or get a head start on your Christmas shopping with 20% discount over retail prices.

The Gift:

The Gift for this issue is a Stationery with scrolling background, a marquee with a special message and a midi. You may change the words of the marquee and/or the midi, if you know how. A word of caution on that last statement: The operative words here are "if you know how". If you do not know how to change them, please do not email me for instructions, instead refer to previous newsletters for tutorials on HTML and/or how to make Stationery!

If you use Outlook 2000 or Outlook 98 (upgrade for Outlook as part of Office 97) in conjunction with Internet Explorer 5.0, then you also need to install the OE 5 version and not the OE 4 version.

Hope you enjoy the Gift!

Please make note that the gift is only for actual subscribers to this newsletter and not for visitors to the archive copies based on the net. Gifts from the last newsletter have been removed and the new ones are now in effect.

Desktop & Program Enhancements:

In this section I would like to point you to a few free programs that let you customize your desktop, programs and Windows:
  • A while back I found this real neat and very different screensaver. The screensaver is called Bodger & Grift Medevil Pickup Lines, and has some definite adult humor, music, cute graphics and some animation. Though not suitable for kids and with a rather large download of around 3 MB, very nice if you are looking for something very different. *smile*

  • Last Issue I listed some very nice sites that offered skins for ICQ and also for Yahoo Messenger. Skins are getting more and more popular, and now you can even place skins on Windows 95/98 with a program called Window Blinds. This site also offers pre-made skins created by other people, a tutor on how to make skins and you can also submit your own skins. This program seems to be free, but if you want to upgrade you will have to purchase this program.

  • While we are still on the subject of skins I guess I should also mention a site called OMG! It's SKINtacular!, which has got to be the largest site on the Net for skins. They offer skins for ICQ Plus, WinAmp (free CD/MP3 Player), Window Blinds, Real Jukebox, and BeatNik, just to name a few. The right-side menu of their main page offers a list of all programs (followed by a number of skins available for that program) that let you apply skins. You might even be surprised by the number and names of the programs listed there... just as I was. *smile*

Windows 95/98/2000:

At this point I would like to go back to basics. Now some of you may wonder "what is she talking about", but it is quite simple. I am referring to the fact that while most of us are still trying to work with Windows 95, they (Microsoft) came out with Windows 98 and now with Windows 2000. The same goes for the browsers... it seems to take us forever to get use to one version, and here they come with a "new and improved" version.

  • So for those of you who upgraded from Windows 95 to Windows 98, and still feel a little confused and/ or overwhelmed by the switch, visit the Windows 98 Companion for some comprehensive help. This site will truly save you money, as there is no need to buy a video or a bunch of books. Here you will get all you need to know about Windows 98 in step-by-step instructions, and best of all... with pictures. Personally I don't think that switching your system from Windows 95 to 98 makes that much of a difference or is all that obvious with many of the changes. I would therefore suggest that people who are still using Windows 95 should also visit this site, as it also offers an IE 4.x Companion!

  • For those of you who just upgraded from IE 3+ or IE 4+ to Internet Explorer 5.x should check out this site called IE 5 Companion. Very detailed instructions on every aspect of the browser, Web Accessories, Outlook Express, Front Page Express and many other features. This is a must see even for those who think they know everything there is to know about IE/OE 5.x

  • Some of you may already ventured on to Windows 2000 and need some help with it. In that case there is a section on the Microsoft site that may come in handy, and is called Windows 2000 Professional Documentation.

I sincerely hope that the above sites will help you get the most out of your computer and your OS (Operating System).

Halloween & Entertainment:

I am seriously surprised that I didn't get more Halloween site submissions from our readers since the last newsletter. People must not be in the mood for Halloween just yet. Well guess what... we are about to correct that! *smile* The following sites offer something for everyone, from Graphics and Games to Recipes and Pumpkin Carvings:
  • Let's start with the "Poison Apple Throw" Shockwave Game from a site called Haunted Carnival. The graphics and sounds are great and if someone actually hits something and/or scores, let me know. I did so badly on that game, I don't even want to go into great detail about it. *hanging my head in shame* However the game is fun and will definitely kill some time during office hours or provide great entertainment for the kids (big and small) at home. *smile*

  • No Halloween is complete without a carved Pumpkin... or so they say. I personally never tried carving a pumpkin or a melon, but it sure looks like it might be fun. If you are in need of some instructions and more importantly some great patterns (of course free) for your Pumpkin adventure, make sure to stop by the Jack-O-Latern.Com. This site is very comprehensive with instructions, tools to use and also plenty of patterns from easy to very complicated for both Pumpkins and also Melons. Have fun!

  • Getting the special effect during a Halloween Party is also very important to scare your guests. The following site doesn't look like much and offers only one recipe, however the pictures that accompany this recipe are enough to gross you out... it's amazing what all you can do with Jello and meat... but go and judge for yourself at Chef Andy's | Meathead Recipes - Yum-Yum!

  • Want to send a free Virtual Greeting Card to friends or family this Halloween? Try sending a ghoulish card from 123 Greetings. Choose from any of their 36 animated Halloween cards in 4 categories covering Haunted Houses, Halloween Wishes, Horror and Jack-o-Latern cards. All of these are also child safe. *smile*

  • As the last site for this issue I would like to direct you to Kate Net | Haunted Halloween. This site offers anything and everything for all your Halloween needs. Some of the things offered are Wallpaper, Screensaver, Fonts, Crafts, Teacher Lesson Plans, Costumes, Fonts, Party & Decorating Ideas, Recipes and so much more... too much to list here.

Quote of the Week
*What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.*
